The development

On 30 July 2026, SEBI issued a circular introducing the “Green-Channel: AIF Rollout Upon Document Acknowledgement” (GARUDA) mechanism for processing placement memoranda of Alternative Investment Funds filed with SEBI.

What changes

The circular forms part of SEBI's continuing effort to streamline the regulatory processing of AIF placement memoranda. For fund sponsors, managers and advisers, the relevant question is whether a proposed filing falls within the mechanism and what documentary and regulatory conditions must be satisfied.

Why it matters

Faster processing mechanisms can reduce execution friction, but they place greater importance on filing discipline. Transaction and fund teams should treat eligibility, completeness and consistency of the placement memorandum as front-end governance issues rather than matters to be cured after filing.
